Irina Alturmessova

Bachelor of Interior Design student Irina Alturmessova was recently named one of Metropolis Magazine’s Future100 Interior Design Undergraduate Winners.

The annual Future100 program celebrates the top architecture and interior design students across North America, as selected by the team at Metropolis – an internationally recognized design and architecture magazine focused on ethics, innovation and sustainability in the creative sector.

“I’m incredibly grateful to be part of this year’s selection, joining an amazing group of fellow interior design graduates,” Alturmessova said of being recognized for the award.

“I’m deeply grateful for the support and encouragement I’ve received throughout my journey at Yorkville University. This milestone was made possible thanks to the incredible professors who guided and supported me along the way.”

Alturmessova gave special thanks to Yorkville professors including: Marco Jacob, for helping her “sharpen” her approach to visual design; Brandy Von Kaenel, “whose class laid the groundwork” for the portfolio she submitted; and to her nominator Reem Habib, chair of the Bachelor of Interior Design program at Yorkville, for her “unwavering support.”

In her nomination letter, Habib attributed Alturmessova’s success during her studies at Yorkville to her consistent academic performance and principled decision-making.

“Irina has demonstrated strong academic and ethical performance throughout her educational journey in the Bachelor of Interior Design program,” Habib said. “Her continuous dedication, engagement, and volunteering services make her a great asset to the program.”

Tree of Life

The Future100 recognition marks Alturmessova’s second award in just six months, having just received an honourable mention from the Interior Designers of Canada’s Innovation in Design Thinking: Student Competition Awards late last year.

For Alturmessova, the continued recognition of her work is an “incredible honour.”

“Being part of this (Future100) cohort reaffirms my belief in the impact design can have on people’s lives,” she said, “and it motivates me even more to keep creating with purpose and heart!”
