Innovative online graduate degree equips educators with the tools they need to spark change, champion inclusion, and inspire learning in every classroom
Fredericton, NB, October 7, 2025 – Yorkville University’s Faculty of Education has announced the launch of its newest graduate offering, the Master of Education in Curriculum and Pedagogy (MECP) – a fully online program designed to equip educators with the skills, insight, and creativity to meet the evolving needs of 21st century learners.
In an era when learning environments are becoming increasingly diverse and complex, the MECP program empowers educators to reach beyond traditional approaches. Students will explore inclusive curriculum design, culturally responsive teaching, and innovative instructional strategies, preparing them to lead change in K-12, higher education, non-profit, and/or corporate contexts.
“In the MECP program, educators will explore new ways of thinking about teaching and learning. They’ll strengthen their knowledge, try out fresh approaches, and learn how to create lessons that are engaging, creative, and supportive for students in all kinds of learning environments,” said Dr. Jeeyeon Ryu, Interim Associate Dean (General Education) and Chair of Yorkville’s Master of Education in Curriculum and Pedagogy program.
Delivered entirely online and asynchronously, the MECP offers unmatched flexibility for working professionals, allowing them to study anytime, from anywhere. The program can be completed in as few as 20 months* and offers both course-based and research-based pathways to align with students’ career goals. With an average class size of just 14, learners benefit from personalized attention and meaningful collaboration with faculty and peers.
Key MECP Program Differentiators:
– Unmatched Flexibility – One of the only online Master of Education in Curriculum and Pedagogy programs in Canada for working professionals that can be completed full-time or part-time and entirely asynchronously
– Distinguished Faculty – Highly qualified faculty (all of whom have a Ph.D. or Ed.D.) who are engaged with research and scholarship
– Broad Professional Relevance – Designed for all education professionals, including those in K-12, higher education, community programs, and alternative learning spaces
– Real-World Application – Bridges the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application through courses using case studies and problem-solving activities
The MECP joins Yorkville University’s two other specialized Masters of Education – in Adult Education and in Educational Leadership – to form a trio of graduate programs reflecting the diverse roles educators play across sectors and stages of learning. While the MECP focuses on inclusive curriculum design and innovative pedagogy, the M.Ed. in Adult Education prepares professionals to design transformative learning experiences for adult learners in post-secondary, workplace, and community contexts. Meanwhile, the M.Ed. in Educational Leadership develops the skills and vision needed to lead institutions and educational initiatives through change. Together, these programs reflect Yorkville’s commitment to preparing purpose-driven educators ready to transform learning across Canada and beyond.
The MECP program is grounded in Yorkville University’s Signature Learning Outcomes, emphasizing critical thinking, applied research, communication, and lifelong learning. Graduates will be prepared to design curriculum that reflects real-world experiences, supports equity and inclusion, and inspires deeper engagement.
“Curriculum design and educational development are in-demand and growing fields in Canada; in fact, over 16,000 new jobs** are expected in next decade,” said Dr. Karen Edge, Dean of the Faculty of Education. “From schools and universities to nonprofits and corporate training teams, organizations are looking for professionals who can design inclusive, forward-thinking learning experiences. Education is being redefined, and this program equips leaders who are ready to meet the moment with compassion, insight, and action.”
Graduates of the MECP program will also be well-positioned for roles in curriculum design and pedagogical development across sectors – in K–12 school systems, post-secondary institutions, international education, community-based programs, and corporate learning environments.
