The Chartered Professional Accountants of British Columbia (CPABC) recently named Aayush Patel their Campus Ambassador for Yorkville University.
Currently in his final year of the Bachelor of Business Administration degree program with a specialization in Accounting, Patel said he jumped at the opportunity to act as a representative for CPABC – the training, governing, and regulatory body for more than 37,000 CPA members and 5,500 CPA students in British Columbia.
“It’s a very good opportunity, not just for me, but for all Yorkville students who want to learn more about what a CPA designation is, how to get it, what the procedure is,” said the third-year international student, who came from India to study Accounting at Yorkville in January 2019.
As a Campus Ambassador, it’s Patel’s job to help promote CPABC amongst his classmates at Yorkville’sVancouver Campus.
“Campus Ambassadors are student volunteers who help promote the CPA career path on campus,” CPABC describes the role on their website.
“They are valuable points of contact for students who have questions about the accounting profession, particularly regarding the CPA Professional Education Program.”
Set to graduate from Yorkville with his Bachelor of Business Administration degree in Accounting, Patel said his ultimate goal is to start his own business so that he can work for himself one day – preferably here in Canada.
“In five years, I will have my CPA designation in my hands and I will be able to have corporate clients, public clients and private clients,” said Patel, who currently works as a customer service representative at Walmart Canada.
“I’m not sure what kind of business I want to start yet, but I want to learn about and explore all the sectors.”
In addition to his new role as CPABC’s Campus Ambassador at Yorkville and his job at Walmart, Patel has been spending his free time lately helping his low-income classmates file their taxes.
